July 4th

Very important date, the day we declared our independence from England . 7/4/1776.

Three Presidents died on the 4th of July, two on the same day ! Jefferson and John Adams both died on 7/4/1826, our 2nd and 3rd presidents, who were adversarial.

President Monroe also passed on a July 4. He was the signature of the Monroe Doctrine, giving notice to other world powers not to attempt to colonize the Americas.  

And Lou Gehrig of the NY Yankees gave his farewell speech on July 4, 1939,to 60,000 and he said, "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth..."

He had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a rare disease that causes spinal paralysis and death, now best known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease".
